The Spud Inc Hanging Ab Straps are a solidly build accessory that quickly attach to any pull up bar. I purchased the ab straps to perform leg raises, suspended flies, face pulls, and various other movements I’ve come accustomed to performing with hanging straps.
Spud Inc has made a name for itself by providing heavy-duty accessories that are simple to use. I paid $89.99 for my Spud Inc Hanging Ab Straps and with that premium cost compared to other products, I was expecting an equally high-end product. I haven’t been disappointed — for the most part.
First, the good. The Spud Inc Hanging Ab Strap is constructed from a durable webbing. I never feel like the product is going to tear apart when under heavy use. The material supports a tensile strength of 1,500 pounds and at no point has my 200-pound frame felt like it was going to cause damage to the straps. After a few weeks of use, I’m confident that this product has even the biggest powerlifters covered in terms of support.
A close look at the material shows off a bunch of double and triple stitching along the product’s stress points. The spring clips that are included also feel strong enough to support your weight.
I actually chose not to use the large spring clips that came with the purchase, instead choosing to wrap the included endless loop attachment straps around my Rogue pull-up bar. I don’t like the idea of metal rubbing up against my Cerakote bar which made that decision a simple choice.
If you decide to use the spring clips, they are large and very sturdy.
This piece of hanging ab equipment is surprisingly comfortable. I’ve used other straps that pinch my arms or don’t provide enough support to comfortably cradle my elbows. The Spud Inc Hanging Ab Straps are thick enough to cradle my arms without being so wide that they inhibit my movements. The second you put your arms in these straps it’s impossible to ignore how solid they feel thanks to their woven nylon.
If there is one complaint I have, it’s that some of the stitching, while overkill, feels sloppy. There was a little fraying on one of my endless loops, although it was superficial and not something that has affected the overall use of my Spud Inc Hanging Ab Straps.
The straps also hang down rather far, especially compared to many other models. With that being said, I have a 100″ Rogue RM-4 Power Rack, and the 15″ straps work perfectly with my 5’10” frame. If you hang the straps, which are sold in pairs, with the endless loop, you can shorten the overall hanging profile by looping the attachments several times.
Because I know this matter to some people, the product is made in America.
If you’re looking for a piece of high-quality ab equipment to work out with, I recommend taking a closer look at this option from Spud, Inc.
