The Fringe Sport tactical weight vest plate carrier is a mainstay in my garage gym and one of the best-designed pieces of gym equipment in my arsenal.
I’ve been using this weight vest for nearly a year now and finally decided to jump in with a review of this versatile option that has taken my workouts to the next level.
When I was looking for a new weight vest, I knew that I would be putting a lot of wear and tear on my new product. I’m not kind to my gym equipment and a weight vest is worn for most of my workouts so I knew it was likely to feel the brunt of my workout routines.
In the case of the Fringe Sport tactical weight vest plate carrier, the product is made with a firm fabric that features a PU coating with Teflon. That coating is both waterproof and oilproof. During even the most intense workouts my sweat rolls off the product and it dries quickly.
The vest also features UTX military fasteners that I’m happy to report continue to maintain a strong grip even nearly a year later.
The fasteners are attached to thick and stretchy waist and tensional bands that fit my 5’10” 200-pound frame and I’m confident someone that is 50 to 100 pounds heavier could easily fit into this vest and still feel comfortable wearing it. The vest also fits my wife who is only 5′ tall and 120 pounds.
During HiiT and CrossFit training, both of which require faster and more frequent movements, my Fringe Sport weighted vest stays in place without any issues.
If you look closely you’ll notice that the Fringe Sport Tactical Weight Vest also features excellent airflow panels. Because the tensional bands around the waist are thick they don’t require a lot of extra material to hold the vest securely to the body, allowing for free-flowing movement with excellent airflow.
Adding to the freeflow of movement, the Fringe Sport weight vest also features a place system that provides for two plate options that both slide easily into place without adding additional bulk to the outer part of the weight vest.
The 2.4 pound vest offers the following plate types:
- Orange 6 lb (x2) plates = 14.4 pounds total vest and plate weight = 12 1/8″ H x 10″ L x 3/16″ W
- Blue 9 lb (x2) plates = 20.4 pounds total vest and plate weight = 11 3/8″ H x 10″ L x 9/16″ W
I use two blue nine-pound weights in my vest and they fit snuggly inside of my weight plate holder.
You’ll notice that the weight plate is held in place by a very large swatch of velcro. I’ve never had a problem with plates falling out or even shifting around once in place. Fringe Sport has gone above and beyond to provide a solid attachment, even nearly one year into use.
While the Fringe Sport tactical weight vest plate carrier only offers a one-year warranty, I’m so far confident that the product will last much longer with proper care.
Here are the weight vest’s main features:
